The Light Bicycle Journey: Built To Handle Adventures Of Any Size

Get the most out of your gravel bike.

The Journey is an adventure-ready gravel frameset, boasting mixed-terrain capability, loads of mounting points, progressive geometry, and a robust carbon construction. Whether you’re commuting to work, cruising singletrack on a Saturday, or exploring new routes in the backcountry - the Journey has your back.

We spent some time putting the Journey through its paces here in the Pacific Northwest. What better place to test the ultimate adventure rig than the diverse landscape of Vancouver Island.

A World of Possibility

Big on clearance, small on limitation

Featuring plenty of clearance for tires as wide as 50c (35c for size XS), the Journey is ready to tackle a wide variety of technical terrain. Interested in pounding the pavement and exploring some backroads? The Journey can do that. Prefer to rip the muddy singletrack through the woods into a rocky mountain pass? The Journey can do that too.

Wide-tire-clearance

Adventure-ready geometry

Taking a cue from its mountain biking cousins, the Journey features a relaxed head angle, long stack, and short reach. This riding position strikes the perfect balance between control and comfort and allows riders to keep their heads up for whatever is around the next bend.

A wheel size for every journey

The Journey fits both 650b and 700c wheels to roll what’s best for you. Choosing a wheel size for your gravel bike depends on a variety of factors including riding style, adventure type, and the terrain. Larger wheels tend to feel more stable and roll over obstacles with ease, while smaller hoops are more playful and spin up quickly. 650b wheels are also usually associated with bigger volume tires for additional grip and vibration damping. Visit the Light Bicycle online shop to see our range of road, CX, gravel and cross-country wheels for all budgets.

The Ideal Bikepacking Partner

Got gear? No problem

The flattened top tube and downtube not only provides more compliance on technical trails, but offers generous space for a frame bag. With your gear stored safely inside the main triangle, you can focus on the road ahead.

Frame-bag-compatible

Over-packers rejoice

With loads of mounting points, the Journey is ready for all of your long-distance adventures. Rack and pannier compatible mounts are featured on the downtube, toptube, fork legs, and rear stays, so you’ll be fully stocked from beginning to end.

All weather riding

The generous clearance allows for the use of full-wrap fenders with wide gravel tires. The Journey also features fender-friendly assists like a removable seat stay bridge and mounts on both the seat stays and fork. If you prefer a quick installation and removal process, try quick-release or saddle mount styles.

Built to Last

Robust carbon construction

Constructed using premium materials, the Journey features a full carbon frame, fork, and seatpost to form a lightweight yet strong frame for varied terrain and conditions. An oversized downtube and tapered head tube paired with 12mm thru axle add stiffness, strength and precision while steering.

31.6mm seatpost

A 31.6mm full carbon seatpost adds strength and durability. The post is designed to suit two-rail saddles, with two bolts to easily adjust the position and tilt for a perfect fit.

Fully internal

The Journey sports internal cable routing and is compatible with most common mechanical and electronic shifting systems. A special D-shape steerer tube on the fork leaves extra room for cables so your cockpit is tidy and distraction-free.

BSA threaded

A threaded BSA system not only adds robustness to the frameset, but also simplifies maintenance as parts should be easy to find in any bike shop.

FAQs

  • 1. Can I use a dropper seatpost on my Journey?

Yes. If you don’t need to use a large seat pack, the Journey is compatible with 31.6mm dropper posts. If you’re using 1x gearing, you should also be able to route the dropper cabling internally.

  • 2. Which handlebar should I use: drops or flats?

Drop bars stretch out your body and move your weight forward so they’re best suited for riders who value an aerodynamic advantage and want to be the first to the top of every climb. Flat bars will add controllability and comfort encouraging a more upright riding position and better visibility of the road ahead. We offer a gravel-optimized integrated drop bar online. Feel free to contact us if your desired unlisted stem length isn’t listed.

  • 3. Should I use mechanical or electronic shifting?

The Journey frame is compatible with either mechanical or electronic shifting (Shimano Di2, Sram Etap, Campagnolo EPS). We recommend using FULL internal routing with the use of a wired electronic groupset.

  • 4. What is the maximum chainring compatibility?

The Journey is compatible with both 1X (42T max) and 2X (36/48T max) round chainrings. Oval rings will need to be smaller than their round counterparts by approximately 2-6T respectively. Please consult with your chainring manufacturer to identify what the round equivalent would be in respect to clearance.
