TECH

Our new generation of Flyweight XC rims are updated with a wider profile and a front/rear specific layup. They are targeted towards cross country racers who seek every possible edge on the course.

Our goal with this iteration was to produce the lightest possible rim-set without sacrificing performance or reliability. The ultralight front rim utilizes a blend of Toray T700 and T800 carbon fiber and receives our spoke hole patching treatment, which maximizes weight reduction. The rear rim uses a continuous spoke bed and a stiffer reinforced layup design to create a balanced feel between the front and rear wheels.

Now with a wider profile, increased resistance to impacts, as well as a tailored front/rear design, the XC925' build the ultimate XC race wheelset.

Hi LB, I want to use the RECON PRO rim XC925 Flyweight for my gravel bike. I use 40mm tires at about 35psi. I weigh about 72kg and ride 50/50 road and gravel. I don't do jumps since I'm an older guy and ride pretty mellow. Do you think flyweight is ok for me? Also, do you have a fly weight version for the rear rim, or can I build a rear wheel using the front fly weight rim? Thanks! Steve

LightBicycle 2021/09/18

Hi Steve, The flyweight rims would be ok for your riding both front and rear-wheel if you want. But I would like to make sure that this is the best-suited rim for you. The XC925 is an MTB XC 29er rim. Is there a reason why you choose it over other gravel road rims? We do have some 25mm internal width road disc rims available from 38mm to 50mm. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Looking for a light/strong xc carbon wheelset to suit 2020 cannondale fsi 3 with lefty fork Any suggestions Thanks Dan

LightBicycle 2021/09/11

Hi Dan, Do you like lefty 1.0 or lefty 2.0 for front 29er XC wheelset? And for rear wheel, is it 12*142mm or 12*148mm boost? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Your RECON PRO rim XC925 is IDEAL for gravel wheels (asymmetrical, 25mm wide, hookless) but you only offer wheels using it configured for MTB hubs, not road hubs, i.e., for gravel I need 12x100 and 12x142 with XDR (12 speed) and usually 28 spokes - like with Novatec 411/412 (or DT350). Is it possible to configure that for order?

LightBicycle 2021/07/02

Hi Mike, For XC925 rims, they are hookless. It is better to ride the tire pressure lower than 40PSI, to prevent from tires blowing off. How much tire pressure will you ride on the gravel bike? Then we can check whether XC925 is working for you or not. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hello, it´s possible to order this rims tubeless ?? instead tubeless ready, without holes in bed of the rim.

LightBicycle 2021/01/13

Hi Sir, For XC925 29er bike rim, it is okay to manufacture them without spoke access holes on rim bed. But it will have not enough room for nippples going through inside because the rim is not deep enough. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Pete 2019/08/08

Hello, I am building a rigid carbon 29er gravel bike. I will primarily be riding dirt and gravel forest roads, not single track, typically running 2.1 to 2.3 tires. I weigh 80kg, and am a very careful and smooth bike rider, with 30 years of avid mountain and road riding. I don't smash rims on objects, break bike parts, and very rarely crash. In other words, I am not hard on my bikes. Would the Flightweight XC925 be suitable as a front and rear rim in this case? Thanks for your help before I place my order. Pete

LightBicycle 2019/08/09

Hi Pete, We suggest using XC925 flyweight 29er XC rim on the front only to prevent an accident. Of course, you can use it for the rear wheel if you like. I can make the invoice for you considering we only have flyweight/standard mixed option online. Just note that the flyweight version is not as strong as the standard version. Could you provide the exact specs you like to have for the 29er cross country rims? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Madalin 2019/05/25

Hello, I'm interested in purchasing a pair of carbon rims for my hardtail bike. My weight is 90 kg, I ride XC mostly with a few rocky sections now and then. I use 29x2.25 tires and now I have a pair of aluminium rims but I'm looking for a wider width, 25 mm for example. Do you think the XC925 standard would be fitted for me or could you recommend me something else? I'm looking for a set of durable and lightweight rims if this is possible. I must tell you that I'm scared of the possibility that a pair of carbon rims to brake under my weight. That's why I'm a litlle bit suspicious to switch to carbon rims, though I always wanted this upgrade for my bike. Thanks!

LightBicycle 2019/05/29

Hi Madalin, First of all, XC925 29er XC rim is an excellent choice, It's the lightweight XC rim from our RECON PRO series that feature with stronger rim structure and manufacturing technique. The rider weight we recommend is 100kg tops. So your weight 90kg is ok to ride. However, you mention a rocky situation riding, we can customize a reinforced version out of the standard version for you if you don't mind adding some weight to the rim. If so, I will create the invoice for the customize version rim for you. Carbon fiber is with higher mutual and tensile strength material than aluminum, it's also a stiffer and better weight-to-stiffness ratio. With proper layup and structure design and manufacturing process, carbon rims are a definitely better choice over alloy rims. BTW, XC925 is with a 5-year standard warranty. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Bart 2019/01/15

I weigh 145 lbs and ride 65% XC 25% Trail and 10% AM. I currently use your flyweight 29C06 on my hardtail and it works well for me. Would flyweight XC925 do as well? Thanks, Bart

LightBicycle 2019/01/15

Hi Bart, If you ride all mountain, it is better to use XC925 standard version. Do you ride aggressively? If our current RM29C06 flyweight is okay for you, then XC925 flyweight is also okay. XC925 recon pro rims are more durable. Thanks, Lightbicycle

B

Bart 2019/02/13

Is there a symmetric version of XC925 to use for the front? I like the weight and width of this rim but it looks all you have is the asymmetrical version which only makes sense for the rear.

LightBicycle 2019/02/14

Hi Bart, Sorry that we don't have the symmetrical version of XC925 29er XC rim. Currently, we will build asymmetrical rims for both front & rear. As you know, asymmetrical rims make both the front and rear wheel more balanced between the drive side and non-drive side. The MTB hubs are mostly with an offset from the centerline, so an asymmetrical rim would make the spoke tension closer. Thanks, Lightbicycle

I’m getting yeti 29er SB100 Xc /trail bike with 100mm rear ,front 120mm. 69kg with gears. I’m looking for light rims for XC trails .trail is not steep and just few small knee level drop.

LightBicycle 2018/12/15

Hi Ren, Our XC925 rim is specially designed for XC riding and would be strong enough for you. If you want light rim set for racing, you can order front flyweight and rear standard version. The flyweight version is only 295g+/-15, and rear standard version weights 360g+/-15. It's suitable for 2.1"~2.4" tire. Does it work for you? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Gudday lightbicycle I'm xc rider my weight its almost 84kgs As of now i'm using aluminum rims Most of our rides are trail Front tire 2.25. 29" Rear tire 2.1 29" I'm planning buy your product carbon rims.any recommendation best for me? Thanks julius

LightBicycle 2018/11/26

Hi Julius, What feature are you after for the carbon rims? Lightweight? Strongness? Scratch proof? I have three 29er XC rim model to recommend, RM29C06 (lightweight), RM29C19 and XC925 (scratch proof). Note that only the XC925 is with the asymmetrical design, it provides better spoke tension balance between drive-side and non-drive side. It will make rims/wheels more durable, Thanks, Lightbicycle

Ralph 2018/11/20

Hi, I am a somewhat heavier rider (95kg). I am considering these rims for a custom set for my new fully (to be used during the cape epic). I would assume you would not recommend me to use the flyweight rim, but would a set of two standard rims work for me? Thanks, Ralph.

LightBicycle 2018/11/22

Hi Ralph, If you are not an aggressive rider but wanted a strong setup, the standard version would work well for you. What would be the tire width that you plan to use on the wheels? We can manufacture a stronger version for you since you are considering building a strong wheelset. What kind of riding you usually do? If you are riding both XC, AM, even EN, I would recommend you to check out the AM927 (33mm wide, 25mm deep). We can also make a stronger version of this rim for you of course. It would be priced higher because of the additional carbon fiber and extra work. Will this be ok with you? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi Julius, What feature are you after for the carbon rims? Lightweight? Strongness? Scratch proof? I have three model to recommend, RM29C06 (lightweight), RM29C19 and XC925 (scratch proof). It will make rims/wheels more durable, You can check out all these three 29er rim details at the link below: RM29C06: https://www.lightbicycle.com/bead-hook-less-rims-carbon-29er-light-bike-rim-tubeless-compatible.html RM29C19: https://www.lightbicycle.com/U-shape-29er-rim-30mm-wide-hookless-MTB-bike-carbon-rims-tubeless-compatible.html XC925: https://www.lightbicycle.com/XC925-asymmetric-rim-profile-carbon-29-inch-carbon-rims-mtb.html Thanks, Lightbicycle

Rick 2018/11/11

Hi, how do these new flyweight versions compare to the older RM29C06 flyweight rims that are compatible for both front and rear use? Also would you be able to make these with only 1mm offset?

LightBicycle 2018/11/12

Hi Rick, All of our Recon Pro rims are paintless. Applied in model XC725, XC925 of Recon Pro Series, our lightest construction method uses an exclusive unidirectional prepreg with a very low fiber area weight. A variable thickness bed reinforces key areas around the spoke holes, eliminating excess material. A blend of Toray T-700 and T-800 offers weight saving benefits of T-800 carbon without compromising the strength or stiffness of the rim. May i know your weight and riding style? Then we can check whether it is okay to use flyweight version for both front & rear on these XC 29er rims. Offset is for enlarge the angle of drive side while building the wheelset, so that it can add the lateral stiffness. It should be keep at least 2mm offset. Why do you prefer 1mm offset? We can check with our enigineers. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Jim 2018/10/26

Greetings. I am considering using your rims for a custom wheel set. I do mostly trail and XC riding on a full suspension 29er. Weight is approximately 78 kg. Trails are dry, and rocky and steep around here. Running 2.35 tires front and rear. I have always appreciated light bikes and wheels. Can you suggest a rim set for me? Thanks. Jim

LightBicycle 2018/10/31

Hi Jim, 1. The rims(XC925) you are looking at is our newly launched paintless series RECON PRO. As you can see, we offer two version of it, standard (360g+/-15) and the flyweight (295g+/-15). According to your description, the trail you ride on is normally steep and rocky, so I would recommend you to go with the standard version just to be safe. The flyweight version is made for those who ride light XC or lightweight rider. Since you are looking for a light set, XC925 would be a good fit. 2. Your 2.35" tires would be ok on XC925 29er rim. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Gareth 2018/10/04

Hi. I weight 78kgs and am building up a hardtail. Given the info above are any of your “flyweight” rims suitable for a rear rim XC bike build? Or are you recommending the flyweight for the front and standard for the rear on all your rim options (including the 22mm internal diameter carbon XC rim) Thanks Gareth

LightBicycle 2018/10/07

Hi Gareth, Sorry for the late reply. We were on National Day vacation from Oct 1st~6th. We are just back to work today. Do you ride aggressively? If you like these light XC925 rims, we definetely recommend customer to order front flyweight version/rear standard version. It is more durable and it is a good combination. May i know your tire width please? Do you like rims only or complete wheelset? Thanks, Lightbicycle

felix 2018/09/24

hello. for XC925 rims, it is stated that the front and rear rim are made differently. How do we order 1x front rim, and 1x rear rim? i can't choose from the product page. thanks.

LightBicycle 2018/09/25

Hi, Felix Apology for the confusion. There's no so-called front and rear option. If you want two rims with the different configuration, all you need to do is choose the specs you want and add the rims to the cart separately. Or we can create the invoice for you if you think the process is too much trouble. The reason why we specific about the flyweight as front and standard version as the rear are that the flyweight version rim won't be strong enough as a rear wheel. We would like to list out our recommendations for you so you can get the best performance with your wheelset. Feel free to contact us by mail or instant message tool at the right bottom of every page. We are here for you. Thanks Lightbicycle
