Introducing Falcon Pro AR375 & AR465

Updated (August, 2022) - We are using the aero-optimized X-Flow profile on several products: AR375, AR375 Disc, AR465, AR465 Disc, AR565, AR565 Disc, and WR40 Disc. Let us know if you want other widths or depths in the comments.

FIND YOUR FLOW.

What is the future of road wheels? Reduced drag, better handling, quicker acceleration and greater impact resistance. We took a bold new direction to bring a new level of performance to the road market. Introducing Light Bicycle’s X-Flow profile, available in two models: AR375 and AR465.

Sounds too good to be true? We have many years of in-house test data to compare against, and we’ve sent our profiles out to third-party test facilities to confirm our design intentions ring true. Rider feedback shows that these laterally stiff rims feel smooth yet responsive, and are FAST! Read on to find out if the new X-Flow rims are right for you.

TECH EXPLAINED

1. X-Flow Aero Profile

The key to excellent aero performance gains found in the AR375 and AR465 rims lies in the X-Flow profile. We sent several R and AR counterparts along with the newly designed X-Flow rims for comparison, to a third-party testing institute using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Removing crosswinds from the equation for a fair rim comparison, based on the samples tested, the X-Flow rims perform the best: 37.33% lower aero drag compared to R-rims, and 26.57% less compared to AR-rims, at a speed of 60km/h.

2. Lateral Stiffness

Lateral stiffness in a rim speaks to the level of movement from side to side. Laterally stiff rims feel more responsive during powerful accelerations like sprinting; a direct power transfer. Also, steering and handling feel sharper.

Under the max load of 50kgf, the AR465 deforms 9.53mm, with an increase of 20% in lateral stiffness compared to a same-wide AR rim (12.05mm deformation).

* Test data source: Light Bicycle Test Lab.

3. Impact Resistance

Our impact resistance test shows that the AR465 achieves a 30% increase in impact resistance, compared to an AR counterpart. The ultra impact force the X-Flow test sample can take is 139.258J.

Impact Energy ( J ) 40.817 48.02 60.025 72.03 84.035 96.04 100.842 120.05 132.055 139.258

Can the x-flow technology be used in any other rim? It would be nice to see it in a deeper WR (such as a wr50 or wr65)

LightBicycle 2022/11/14

Hi Neil, For X-flow wider wheels, we have WR40 gravel wheelset. Does it work for you? https://www.lightbicycle.com/700C-tubeless-bicycle-wheels-32mm-wide-40mm-deep-clincher-for-cyclocross-road-and-gravel-bikes.html Thanks, Lightbicycle

Do you have any aerodynamic test results to share comparing the x-flow to you other rims with crosswinds (i.e. various yaw angles)?

LightBicycle 2021/08/19

Hi Paul, We actually receive some good feedbacks from social media and forums on the X-flow deisng performance in crosswinds. What riding conditions looks like on your side? Please tell me more about your riding and reqreuiments so I can recommend the best-fit 700C road rims/wheels for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Do you have any impact test data or estimates for the flyweight versions?

LightBicycle 2021/05/07

Hi Wilson, Which model of flyweight version impact test data do you like to check? AR375 disc or AR465 road disc? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Joost 2021/04/27

Hi, How does the new AR375 / AR465 with x-flow compare to the AR35 / AR45 in terms of cross wind stability? At what yaw angles is it faster? And what tire widths were used during testing? I really would love more technical information about the aerodynamics to make a decision between those rims. Kind regards, Joost

LightBicycle 2021/04/30

Hi Joost, For crosswind, the rim/wheel 700C depth is more important. Normally, you will have to choose shallow rims/wheels if there is lots of crosswind there. For X-FLOW, actually, the lateral stiffness is much better than all other models, so they provide better bike control in cross-wind area. For some other models/flyweight version, one customer mentioned not stiff enough at lateral. So, X-FLOW is helping on lateral stiffness, and improve bikecontrolling obviously in cross-wind. Thanks, Lightbicycle

I need a very good Wheelset with very good hubs.

LightBicycle 2021/04/26

Hi Ace, Thanks for your inquiry! Do you like road disc or rim brake wheelset 700C? And what is your weight and tire width? Then i can recommend accordingly for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle
