I want to build my own all-road gravel style bike.

I purchased a TIME ADHX frameset and forks with the intention of building up my own all-road gravel style bicycle. It was important to get the best wheelset for this bicycle. Following good reviews from YouTube (Rides of Japan) and fellow cycle mates, I contacted the Light Bicycle sales team.

I was looking for a low profile 25mm, gravel style design. Wide rim spacing, but looking to avoid hookless design. The hybrid hook design from Light Bicycle appeared to be strong and durable and easy for the tyres to fit.

I get the face image of my healthy, and happy, Red Kelpie Dog laser etched onto the wheel rims.

Speaking with Light Bicycle, I purchased the XC924 cross-country style wheel rims with Spaim CX Ray spokes and DT Swiss 240 hubs. I increased the strength of the rims, up to 300 grams each, in order to handle heavier loads when I rig up, for bike packing. I weigh 88kgs, and with an additional 8kgs of pack weight, which gives good strength over bumpy roads and gravel tracks.

My bike frame is TIME ADHX with clear gloss, over amber coloured resin and open-weave carbon fibre design. The amber coloured reminded me of my red Kelpie dog, Archie, and his determined drive to work all day. I found a good image of a kelpie face which LB were able to laser etch onto the side of each wheel rim adjacent to the valve stem. It looks fantastic!

The XC924 wheels are set with hole-free bead to assist with tubeless tyre fitting. No drain holes are required in the side walls. To avoid some other wheels I have with a spoke pattern that touches and creaks on the hills, I asked LB to provide a 2-cross (front) & 3-cross (rear) spoke pattern which does not have any spoke contact at the overlaps. They are strong and quiet without any noise.

The wheels are super light and look fantastic.

The wheels arrived promptly. It took just 6 days to get to Perth, Western Australia. The rims are pro-finished with paintless finish and this looks fantastic. Satin shine and carbon pattern free to see. They are super light, weighing in at 539g (front); 656g (rear) for a total of 1,195g for the wheelset. Fitting tubed gravel tyres was very tight and difficult to fit, but fitting the Vittoria N.EXT 34c TLR tyres was easy and they sealed up tight with the sealant. Very happy with the sales experience and great wheels from Light Bicycle!
