TECH

As one of our widest road rims designs, the WR50 is the answer for the gravel rider trying to squeeze out every aerodynamic advantage from their setup.

Designed with racing in mind, the WR50 features a deep U-shape profile that cuts through crosswinds and decreases lateral resistance. With a 50mm deep and stiff profile, the WR50 is designed for experienced bike handlers looking for an aero edge or larger riders. Smaller or new riders may find its brother WR38, a more comfortable and stable wheel option for all their drop bar dirt needs.

Chaadster : I ordered a WR50 wheelset with Sapim CX Ray/Sprint (driveside rear) laced to Bitex hubs and finished in silver crystal effect paint. They’ve been great, and look terrific! They arrived true and round, and they like to go fast. The 25mm internal width really gives these a sense of stability. Overall, I’m impressed with these, and would definitely consider ordering from LB again!

Paul-Julien : I love my custom wheelset! I have built my bike and rode the whole summer with it. I mostly shopped the Journey frameset for those characteristics: Carbon (lightweight) Many mounting points Possible to mount fenders and a rack Possible internal cable routing Accommodate large tires (700x45C) Accepts 2x drivetrain

Ben : Configured with 28 spokes, brass nipples, and 3x lacing for increased strength and reliability. Although far from being a light build wheelset I’m really impressed with these so far. The ability to completely configure the wheels to anyone’s liking really sets Light Bicycle apart from the rest.

Hey guys. What's the max tire and tire pressure you can run with the hookless system? I plan to run the rims for gravel so hoping to use something like a 42-47c tire. Thanks!

LightBicycle 2020/11/23

Hi Paolo, For the hookless rim road disc and mtb hookless, we don't recommend running higher than 50psi. You can check out a detailed recommendation chart at https://www.lightbicycle.com/newsletter/Tubeless-Tire-Pressure-Charts.html Thanks, Lightbicycle

Please make this new shape in deeper rim depths. 50mm is great I’m sure, but I am hoping you go to 65mm and deeper for the time trial and triathletes out there.

LightBicycle 2019/05/03

Hi Tharmor, Currently, 32mm wide disc rims we only have 38mm deep and 50mm deep. Do you like 65mm also in disc version? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Harry 2019/05/04

65mm depth with 21-23 wide internal, and 31-32 external would be great with the new carbon blend

LightBicycle 2019/05/05

Hi Harry, Have you check out our RR56C02 (23mm internal/30mm outer width, 56mm depth). This is the closest rim we got to your request. But it's made with the traditional manufacturing process and technologies applied. Do you think our new WR50 road disc rims not meeting your needs? Would you share more of your thoughts on this? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Jo 2019/08/08

What i think, ideal rim depth would be 60mm with outer 32mm and inner max 23mm

LightBicycle 2019/08/13

Hi Jo, Thank you for the feedback on this road disc suggestion, I will certainly bring your suggestion to our Technique Research and Development Dept. Will contact you if your suggested rim is approved by our engineers. Thanks, Lightbicycle

LB, I actually have a set of the new 50mm rims, and they’re great. I think you would also sell a lot of rims in the deeper depths (eg, 65-80 mm) with similar dimensions to your 56mm rim but with a slightly narrower internal width. The older style 56mm rims look great in person, but the new style is the nicest I’ve seen.

LightBicycle 2019/08/21

Hi Harry, We are happy that you like our falcon pro road disc rims. We have deeper rims, but it is 28mm wide. Is it okay for you? Thanks, Lightbicycle

Jo 2019/12/05

Hi again, I see a wonderful progress, with the new rims you made, excellent to have lighter versions available. 1. I wonder if the stiffness of the lighter version is same as the standard one?? 2. Another question is : How do they compare aerodynamicaly to AR56 rims (which are phenomenal aerodynamicaly, reviewed by Hambini!!) ? 3. Question i about 60 mm 32mm wide 23-25mm internal rims-Any times soon?? (no where to find such!!) PS: X-mass is comming ;) Keep up guys, you are the best! Jo

LightBicycle 2019/12/06

Hi Jo, 1. The lateral stiffness is the same for both flyweight and standard version. But for vertical stiffness, standard version is stiffer because more material added. 2. For Aerodynamic performance, it depends on different tire width you mount. This will also affect the wheelsets performance. If you use wider tires like 40C, then WR50 is better.   If you use 28C/25C, AR56 is better. 3. Currently, we do not have deeper version. It will take at least two months to make a deeper version ready. Sorry about that. AR56 is not deep enough for you? Why you need deep road disc wheels? Thanks, Lightbicycle

J

Jo 2019/12/06

Thanks for the quick reply. I wrote to you about 60mm rims before, but it would be a nice complement to a 50mm or 56mm rim similar to ENVE 5.6 SET. The AR 56 would need a same 30 mm width but 64-65mm deep rim light max 500 grams to make a lovely set, for both climbs and flat. Thanks a bunch, Jo

LightBicycle 2019/12/07

Hi Jo, Thanks for your recommendation. We will check with our engineer team about the deep version 30mm wide disc rims schedule and will get back to you soon. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi - how well would this work coupled with a 28c gp4x or 32c gp5x, just worried that it may be a tad too wide? Have you got any reference, non library photos of rim on bike to give idea of aesthetics? Thanks!

LightBicycle 2019/07/10

Hi Joseph, 700C wide Rim WR50 (32mm wide, 50mm deep) is compatible with 28c and 32c tires. Our recommended range is 28c~50c. Currently, we do not have any bike pictures with WR50 wheelset. I will check with some customers and let them share bike pictures for your reference. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Eric 2019/05/27

Hello Could you please post a photo with a 25mm tire (for example a Schwalbe Pro One 25mm) inflated at the right pressure ? As you recommand a size starting at 25mm, i'd like to see how it comes.... i fear it could be "too short".... Thanks in advance !

LightBicycle 2019/05/29

Hi Eric, 25c tires can fit in the WR50 wide disc rims 700C but considered narrow as you worried, our recommendation tire width is 28c~50c. Can your frame ok with 28c tires? If not, you can check out our narrower rims like the RR46C02, or 17.9mm inner/25mm outer width series rims, RRU55C02 or RRU45C02. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Is the finish and color on the 38mm and 50mm the same? I'm thinking of doing a 38 front and 50 back but the photos seem to be a different shade and gloss.

LightBicycle 2019/05/21

Hi Kenny, Yes, the 38mm and 50mm finish will be the same. The reason why the 50mm seemed more glossy is because of the light source and shooting angle. Sorry for misleading to you. Theese 700C bike rims finish is between glossy and matte. What road disc hubs are you looking for? We can quote accordingly for you. Thanks, Lightbicycle
